Alpha v0.5.1 is ready to download. Here is what changed:
- Fire mode is on B now.** On the rifle, B switches between full auto and single shot, and the bottom right corner says which one you are on. The handguns already fire one round per press, so the key does nothing there. The third person camera moved to N, and your old settings file is converted for you
- The rifle shoots from the tip of the front post.** Wherever the tip of the little post inside the ring is, that is where the round goes. The round, the dot in the middle of the crosshair and the hit marks now all meet in the same place. That is why the ring sits 11 pixels above the dot, which is what a hooded front sight looks like
- Firing while sprinting costs you.** When a sprint ends the weapon needs a fifth of a second to come up, and a shot taken in that window spreads as much as a jumping shot and pulls down and left, where the barrel is still pointing. Your speed drops to a walk as well
- Getting a weapon up is faster.** You can fire and aim over the last 15 per cent of the draw. A weapon change went from 1.13 to 1.00 seconds on the handguns and from 1.17 to 1.02 on the rifle, and the small position correction at the end of the draw is gone
- Footsteps tell you the speed.** 2.1 steps per second crouched, 2.8 walking, 3.7 sprinting. A sprint sounds a little heavier, and a sprinting man close to you has a low thump under his boot
- Hit sound.** When you hurt somebody there is a short metallic tick for a head and a low dull sound for the body. Only the shooter hears it, and the weapon itself sounds exactly as before
- The crackle during grenade ringing is gone.** After an explosion, while your ears were ringing, every sound was breaking up. Two faults in the sound mixer were found and fixed. The muffling itself is unchanged
- The kill feed tells you what happened.** Who killed whom with which weapon, whether it was a headshot, whether it was a grenade. Falling off the map, blowing yourself up and dying on your own each have their own line, and your own name is gold whichever side of the line it is on. In an online match the weapon icon was never drawn at all
- Reloading the rifle while aiming.** The reload drops the sights and brings them back on its own, and the weapon no longer swings out of your hands. The charging handle is only pulled when the magazine ran completely empty
- Ammunition for testing.** 3 grenades per life and 10 spare magazines per weapon, which is 300 rounds on the rifle. The console settings sv_grenades and sv_mags change both
- Bots are heavier.** Their sidesteps are no longer instant, changing direction takes time, and a bot that gets shot answers a quarter of a second later. The easy bot's aim was loosened slightly so it still kills at the same rate
- The dot in the middle of the crosshair stays while you aim**, so you can see with your own eyes where the round will go
